Boomers
& the Grim Reaper
by Michelle Furr
Could it be that there is a hidden
engine of death driving the millennial bull market?
The idea's simple:
As the 90s wore on, more and more of
the boomers' parents died. Their parents were a generation that saved, not invested. Their
money was socked away in:
1) banks,
2) real estate,
3) old-fashioned retirement plans, and
4) social security.
On their death, the social security
money is gone. But the rest of it was passed on to their children, the Baby Boomers. And
what did the boomers, yuppies all, do? Well, after buying an SUV or two, they put the
remainder (where else?) in the stock market.
If this is correct (and unfortunately,
I haven't found any economic research into the possibility--somebody needs to get on
this), as the final group of boomer moms and dads pass on in the next decade, the bull
market may become even more wildly and unpredictably bullish.
Could be that we ain't seen nuthin
yet.
