Rumbling forth from contented bowels filled with half-digested animals, the finest thoughts of Western philosophers do, on careful reading, give one pause—though not exactly the pause their formulators expected. If not unsullied, then at least less sullied, the words of the great thinkers of the east sprang from vegetarian digestion and, no doubt on occasion, indigestion.
