Brainteasers 55
The Silly Season
As compulsive seekers after, and solvers of, brainteasers, the Magellan's Log staff have
become expert on puzzle sites. As with any human endeavor, 99% of the sites mean well
but... Occasionally we come across a site that falls in the other 1%. We just discovered
Kevin Stone's beautifully designed, excellent Brainbashers site, one of the best. Below is
a sample. If you like these little stumpers, pay a visit to:
http://www.brainbashers.com/
For this sample, we've selected from Kevin's large collection of tricky
teasers. In addition he's got an fine set of non-tricky, classic puzzles.
1. Which word, if pronounced right, is wrong, but if pronounced
wrong is right?

2. Name something that has keys that open no locks, with space
but no room, and allows you to enter but not to go in?

3. What's this?

4. Adam had none. Eve had two. Everyone nowadays has three. What
is it?

5. It's the beginning of eternity,
The end of time and space,
The beginning of every end,
The end of every place.
What is it?

6. What occurs twice in a lifetime, but once in every year.
Twice in a week but never in a day?

7. A banana farmer has six monkeys who hate each other. They
must be kept in pens to separate them from the bananas as well as from each other. The
farmer has created six pens of equal size using 13 equal lengths of fencing. The pens are
organized in a row like this:

Early one morning the farmer discovers someone has stolen one of
the lengths of fencing so that now the pens look like this:

How can the farmer reorganize the fencing to make six new pens
of equal size with the 12 remaining lengths of fencing?
