An unusual email arrived recently from someone identified only as "New Mexico Seeker," with a subject line that read: "Roswell: The Titanium Notebooks." The body of the message:

"In 1987 the god Peyotl led me to spend several nights in the desert outside Roswell. On the third morning, at sunrise, I noticed a faintly glowing object beside a nearby cactus. I walked over and picked it up. It seemed some kind of metallic book, perhaps 6 by 10 inches, bound on the shorter side. A design was visible on the 'cover,' though it somehow seemed not exactly etched there but rather to hover right at the surface of the silvery metal. I opened and paged through the 'book', seeing other designs, 13 in all. As I did so, sound came, a dissonance but with a human tune strangely embdedded. As with the drawings, the sound was clearly in the book but just how was far from clear. When I closed the book, the sound stopped.

"I left the desert and returned to my normal working life in Santa Fe. Many evenings have been spent contemplating the 13 'pictures,' if that is what they are, and listening to the dissonant music. I have experienced no great revelations or insights into what I  see or hear when I turn these metal leaves, though time thus spent has been oddly comforting. At one point, I showed the object to a chemist-friend, who easily determined that the book was made of titanium.

"She encouraged me to photograph the pages, which I have now done, and to record the 'music,' which I have also done. Attached you will find files of the images and a crude midi reduction of the recording. Feel free, if you wish, to share these with the world."

The first and last images appear to be the "covers" of the book. The midi is 3 minutes and 10 seconds in length.
