In our quest for the disambiguous image, we pay hundreds, thousands of dollars, for
higher resolution. My digital camera has more pixels than your digital camera!
My TV has more lines than your TV!
We want beautiful, detailed pictures so fine-grained that we know what they are, no
doubt about it, nosiree.
The generation of lazy retinas, that's us.
Have you looked at a Turner painting
lately? That'll give the old retinas a workout. Or, for that matter, choose a
four-square-inch area of a Rembrandt, say, ignore the rest of the picture, and just study
that little area.
Hmmmm.
We know now how important exercise is for the cardiovascular system. But who pays
attention to the slack condition of our lazy, lazy retinas?
Magellan's Log does, that's who!
Here are six vague, fuzzy images with vague, fuzzy music. The whole idea is for you to
stare impolitely and fixedly at your monitor and let your retinas do the walking. It's the
old what-do-you-see-in-the-clouds game. It's also the old find-the-hidden-pictures game
from reading readiness class in first grade. It's also a new game to loosen the hold that
so-called digital reality has on your eyes.
Relax and let your mind float downstream...
